TL;DR
Best Beetroot powder: Humann SuperBeets®
Best Beet capsules: NatPrime Beet Root Capsules
Best beetroot gummies: Totaria Nitric Oxide Booster Beet Root Gummies
I kept seeing beetroot supplements everywhere and started wondering if they are actually worth the hype. Many of them promise more energy and better exercise performance, which made me curious, especially for longer run days. So I decided to look into the research and see whether beetroot supplements are genuinely beneficial.
Beetroot is a humble but powerful food with a solid body of evidence behind it. I try to include beetroot in my diet a few times a week, but supplements offer a much more concentrated dose of its active compounds.
What are the health benefits of beetroot supported by science?
Cardiovascular and Blood Pressure Support
Beetroot supplements are rich in dietary nitrates, which increase nitric oxide availability in the body. This leads to improved blood vessel dilation, reduced arterial stiffness, and meaningful reductions in blood pressure – particularly in people with hypertension or excess body weight. Together, these effects support cardiovascular health and may help reduce the risk of heart disease. (1)(2)
Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Effects
Beetroot contains powerful antioxidants, including betalains and polyphenols. These compounds help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation and may offer protection against chronic conditions such as arthritis, liver disease, and certain cancers. (2)(3)(4)
Athletic Performance and Muscle Recovery
Beetroot supplementation has been shown to enhance exercise performance by improving oxygen efficiency, increasing muscle blood flow, and reducing post-exercise muscle soreness. These effects are linked to both beetroot’s nitrate content and its broader phytonutrient profile. (2)
Metabolic and Antibacterial Benefits
Research suggests that beetroot extracts may help lower blood lipids and blood glucose, support liver and kidney function, and provide antimicrobial and potential anti-obesity effects. (2)(3)
Beyond its health benefits, beetroot also works as a natural alternative to synthetic food colouring. Most of us have experienced red fingers after handling cooked beetroot, but this intense pigment can also be used to add vibrant colour to baked goods and other foods.

Best Beetroot Gummies
If you have been reading Barfoot Basil, you will know that I am not the biggest fan of supplements in gummy form. And there are a few reasons. Most of the time, they have a lot of added sugar and are not vegan if made from gelatin. It is also more difficult to create each gummy with the exact amount of supplement. They also have a few more ingredients to make them taste better, and in general are more expensive.
But I do understand the appeal and why they are so popular, and I always try to find the best options out there.
All options of beetroot gummies listed below are great as a pre-workout supplement to give you more energy and support you during your workouts.
