Best Non-Toxic Air Fryers You Can Buy in 2026: What to Know Before You Buy

best non toxic air fryers of 2026 stainless steel glass, no teflon or plastics

Air fryers are everywhere these days, and for good reason. They make weeknight dinners faster, crispier, and healthier. But when I started looking for one, I kept running into the same problem – most air fryers are made with plastic parts exposed to the heat or coated with Teflon, which has been linked to serious health and environmental concerns (7).

If I’m using an appliance daily, I want it to be non-toxic. That sent me down a rabbit hole of research – checking manufacturer disclosures, comparing materials and certifications, and reading through hundreds of customer reviews to see how coatings hold up over time. Here’s what I’ve learned, and the best non-toxic air fryers you can actually buy in 2026.

In This Article:

TL;DR

Air fryers have come a long way since they first became popular, and it is exciting to see the improvements and focus on non-toxic materials.

How to choose the best non-toxic air fryer?

1. Inner Materials and Coatings

Teflon (PTFE) and PFOA: Traditional non-stick coatings like Teflon are classed non-toxic, but can release toxic fumes when overheated (typically above 500°F/260°C) or scratched (1)(2).

Older or less expensive models of air fryers may still use coatings containing PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic acid), a chemical linked to health risks including increased cholesterol, liver and kidney disease, developmental effects, and possible cancer (3)(4)(5)

While most modern air fryers are now PFOA-free, PTFE (Teflon) is still common and can degrade with high heat or scratches. There are numerous concerns about toxic byproducts like PFOA and the environmental persistence of PFAS, and ideally, we should strive to avoid them.

Ceramic non-stick Coating is considered safer and more heat-resistant than Teflon. It doesn’t emit fumes and is typically free from PTFE and PFOA. However, not all ceramic coatings are created equal:

    • Look for high-quality, lead- and cadmium-free ceramic coatings.
    • Look for certifications: NSF, FDA, California Prop 65, or third-party heavy metal testing.
    • Choose well-known, reputable brands and avoid unknown air fryer makers, especially if they are cheaper than the average price

Stainless Steel Baskets: The safest option overall. They don’t have coatings that degrade and are highly durable. Downside: food can stick more easily without oil or parchment paper. Note that some manufacturers will spray stainless steel with a non-stick coating that can still be toxic.

2. Plastic Components

Interior plastic parts can release fumes or microplastics when exposed to heat. Even if the food doesn’t directly touch the plastic, heated plastic can off-gas volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Look for:

    • Air fryers with all-metal interiors or minimal plastic exposure to the heating element.
    • BPA-free and food-grade certified plastic, if plastic is present.
    • External plastic housings are generally not an issue, but avoid plastic near the cooking chamber.

Summary of What to Look for when choosing a Non-Toxic Air Fryer?

  • No PTFE / PFOA coating (check product description).
  • Ceramic-coated or stainless steel baskets.
  • No plastic parts inside the cooking chamber.
  • Brands reputation
  • Air Fryers are a category where you get what you pay for, as there is a lot of designing and testing involved to create a functional but also non-toxic air fryer. So if you want to invest in your health, I would recommend spending a bit more on it to make sure the materials and coatings used are non-toxic.

There are many air fryer models on the market, so to make it easier to find what you are looking for, we have divided them into three main categories:

Non-toxic Basket Air Fryers,

Air Fryers/ Ovens,

and Glass bowl/portable Air Fryers.

Tastee ceramic Air Fryer is one of the most bought from this guide, and the return rate among my readers is low, which tells me people are genuinely happy with it. The ceramic basket checks out as PFAS-free, and the built-in probe is a smart addition that most competitors skip.

Typhur 8QT Sync Air Fryer with Built-in Wireless Meat Thermometer

This air fryer has a non-stick, PFAS-free ceramic-coated basket.  It comes with a built-in NIST-certified wireless thermometer to monitor meat temperature in real time.

Typhur 8QT Sync Air Fryer with Built-in Wireless Meat Thermometer

Pros

+ A built-in wireless thermometer

Cons

– The touch screen could be improved ( not all buttons are touchable screen)

– Although it is big, the inside capacity is quite limited.

– Can’t see food cooking inside

I spent time digging into Typhur’s material disclosures, and they’re one of the few brands that openly market their ceramic coating as PFAS-free with third-party verification. The built-in wireless thermometer is a genuinely useful feature, especially if you cook a lot of meat and want to avoid guessing.

Cons

– The touch screen could be improved ( not all buttons are touchable screen)

– Although it is big, the inside capacity is quite limited.

GreenPan publishes its material certifications clearly, which is more than I can say for many brands. The top-view window is a nice design detail if you hate opening the basket mid-cook.

Ninja DZ201 Foodi 8 Quart 6-in-1 DualZone 2-Basket Air Fryer

Ninja air fryers are probably the most well-known and popular Air fryers, and for a good reason- they are good quality and affordable air fryers. Please note that some of Ninja Airfriers use Teflon. Foodi and Crispi models use ceramic coating.

This air fryer is great as you can cook your proteins and sides in different containers for various times.

Maximum Temperature: 450ºF
Capacity: Two independent 4-quart baskets. 10QT option available.
Presets: 6 – Air Fry, Air Broil, Roast, Bake, Reheat, and Dehydrate

Material: Ceramic-coated
Dishwasher safe: yes

Pros

+ Two separate baskets

+ Deep baskets that are easy to clean

Cons

– Can’t see food cooking inside

Please note that not all Ninja models are non-toxic; some still use Teflon. The Foodi and Crispi lines use ceramic coatings, which is why they’re on this list. This dual-basket model is great for food prep and families, or if you are like me and cook a lot of vegetables that take up a lot of space.

Typhur Dome 2 Air Fryer

Inspired by professional pizza ovens, Typhur reinvented the airflow and circulation of the air fryer, reducing cooking time by up to 30%. Dishwasher safe:

Pros

+ self-cleaning

+ Very quiet

+ Large Capacity

Cons

– Very shallow and can be limiting for cooking larger items like baked potatoes or muffins

– Can’t see food cooking

– Pricey

The flat, wide design is genuinely different from a traditional air fryer, and the dual heating elements mean you don’t have to flip your food. I’ve seen strong reviews on coating durability over time, though the shallow basket can be limiting for taller items ( I don’t think you could squeeze in a whole chicken in there ).

Why isn’t the Breville Smart Oven on this list? I contacted Breville directly to ask about the non-stick coating applied to their interior. Their response was that all materials are “considered proprietary and may not be disclosed.” For a non-toxic kitchen guide, that’s not good enough. If a brand won’t tell you what’s in the coating, I can’t recommend it with confidence. If Breville updates their transparency on this, I’ll revisit.9 o’clock in the morning

I wanna finish justThinking about why non-toxic cooking matters even more after 40?

As a menopause coaching specialist, I’ve been researching the connection between PFAS exposure and hormonal health, and it’s something I think every woman in perimenopause should know about. I’m working on a deeper article about how endocrine disruptors in everyday kitchen products can affect your hormones during midlife. Should I Replace My Teflon Air Fryer?

If your current air fryer has a Teflon coating and you’re not ready to get rid of it, there are a few practical ways to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals:

  • Avoid high heat: Keep temperatures below 500°F (260°C) to prevent fumes or degradation.

  • Use unbleached parchment paper: It will act as a barrier and make cleanup easier.

  • Choose wooden or silicone utensils: These prevent scratches that can accelerate wear.

  • Clean gently: Use non-abrasive sponges and mild soap to preserve the coating.

FAQ:

Can You Use Aluminum Foil in an Air Fryer?

Yes, and No. Theoretically, you can, as long as it doesn’t block air circulation. Refer to your user manual to ensure you’re not covering critical airflow areas or heating elements. However, I would recommend getting an air fryer paper liner or simple parchment paper. Several studies show that cooking with aluminum foil, especially at high temperatures and with acidic or salty food, causes aluminum to leach into the food.(6)

Can you use parchment paper in an air fryer?

Yes, you can. You can get parchment paper designed specifically for your air fryer’s shape, and also with holes for better airflow. Or you can line it with regular parchment paper. It will help keep your Air fryer clean and save time cleaning it. Just make sure to read your air fryer instructions, and do not cover the air flow and heating elements as per above.

Make sure you get unbleached, Silicone-coated, labeled “PFAS-free” or “compostable” parchment paper.

Are ceramic air fryers really non-toxic?

Most ceramic-coated air fryers are free from PFAS, PTFE, and PFOA, which makes them a much safer choice than traditional Teflon-coated models. That said, not all ceramic coatings are the same quality. I’d recommend looking for brands that specifically state their coating is PFAS-free and ideally have third-party testing – from TUV, NSF, or California Prop 65 compliance. The brands in this guide all meet that standard.

Is the Ninja Crispi actually non-toxic?

The Ninja Crispi’s glass bowl is fully non-toxic – glass is one of the safest cooking materials. The crispi plate, however, uses an aluminium base with a nano-ceramic coating. It’s better than Teflon, but it’s not as clean as full stainless steel or borosilicate glass. If you want to be extra cautious, use the glass container on its own or line the crispi plate with parchment paper.

What is the safest air fryer material?

Stainless steel and borosilicate glass are the safest because they have no coatings that can chip, degrade, or release fumes at high temperatures. High-quality ceramic coatings from reputable brands are the next best option; they’re easier to clean than bare stainless steel and still avoid the concerns around PFAS and PTFE.

Do air fryers release toxic fumes?

Air fryers with PTFE (Teflon) coatings can release toxic fumes when heated above 500°F or when the coating is scratched or damaged. Non-toxic air fryers with ceramic, stainless steel, or glass surfaces are safe.

Are PFAS in cookware something to worry about?

PFAS are classified as endocrine disruptors, meaning they can interfere with your body’s hormone production and function. They’re called “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down in your body or the environment. The concern isn’t a single cooking session; it’s the cumulative exposure over years and decades. Choosing PFAS-free cookware is one of the simplest ways to reduce that exposure, especially as we get older.

What is the best non-toxic air fryer in 2026?

Based on my research, the Tastee Ceramic Air Fryer is the best overall non-toxic option for 2026. It combines a PFAS-free ceramic coating with practical features like a built-in temperature probe and a glass viewing window. If you prefer glass, the Ninja Crispi is the most popular choice. For a full air fryer oven, the Cuisinart TOA-70 and COSORI 12-in-1 both offer fully stainless steel interiors with no coating at all. So there is no one best option; it really depends on your needs.

Final Thoughts

There are now excellent options for non-toxic air fryers that make healthy cooking easier and safer. But let’s not forget: how and what we cook also matters. A non-toxic air fryer is a great tool, but combining it with real, whole foods is the best investment you can make in your health.

I only recommend buying an air Fryer if you plan to use it to cook healthier food, not to warm up your takeaway leftovers or frozen chicken nuggets.
