Best Grip Pilates Socks for Studio & Home Workouts in 2026

pilates grip socks

Pilates workouts have been on the rise, with many reformer-Pilates studios opening worldwide, and mat Pilates classes available pretty much in every gym. Pilates is great because it works all your body’s muscles in one workout, making you leaner, stronger, and more flexible.

You can wear your regular workout clothes to practice Pilates, but for better stability and grip, you should practice it barefoot or, if you go to a class, you might be required to wear socks. To make sure you have stability as well as good grip, you should always wear Pilates socks with grip.

It is good to use Pilates socks for safety, comfort, and performance during Pilates sessions.

If you are not quite ready to join Pilates classes and want to practise at home, I have created some great video guides for the best Pilates channels on YouTube.

You can start with Wall Pilates workouts and progress to reformer Pilates workouts.

Grip Pilates Socks that I have considered but not included.

Lululemon pilates socks

As much as I love their grip detail, unfortunately, all Lululemon pilates socks are fully synthetic. When smaller brands are innovating and using more natural materials, I feel like they are not worth buying.

Alo Yoga Pilates socks

I have included two good options, but most are made 100% from synthetic fabrics, and the price tag is not justifiable, even if you pay extra for the logo.

Gaiam

All of their socks are fully or mostly synthetic. It’s a shame as I really like their designs.

Why Use Grip Pilates Socks:

  1. Grip & Traction: Pilates socks typically come with non-slip grips on the bottom, which help provide stability, especially when performing exercises on smooth surfaces like a reformer or mat. This can prevent slips and falls, making your movements safer.
  2. Hygiene: In studios or gyms where equipment is shared, socks offer a hygienic barrier between your feet and the surface, reducing the risk of contact with bacteria helping reduce exposure to foot fungus
  3. Foot Support: Pilates socks often have arch support, enhancing comfort and supporting the feet, reducing strain during various exercises.
  4. Temperature Control: They help keep your feet warm during sessions, especially in colder studios, without compromising your grip like regular socks.

What Makes a Good Pilates Sock:

  1. Non-Slip Grips: High-quality grip patterns on the sole are essential. Look for silicone or rubber grips that cover a wide area of the sock, especially under the toes and heels, to maximise traction.
  2. Breathable & Moisture-Wicking Fabric: The fabric should be lightweight and breathable to prevent sweating and discomfort. Cotton-blend or synthetic moisture-wicking materials are ideal to keep your feet dry.
  3. Snug Fit & Comfort: A good Pilates sock should fit snugly around the foot without being too tight or loose. Many come with elastic bands or additional support around the arches to prevent slipping off during exercise.
  4. Open-Toe or Closed-Toe Design: you might prefer open-toe socks for more toe flexibility or closed-toe designs for full coverage and warmth.
  5. Durability: The socks should be made from materials that can be washed frequently without losing grip, elasticity, or shape.
  6. Ethically produced: Ethically produced socks should prioritise sustainable materials, fair labour practices, eco-friendly production processes, and community support. When choosing ethically made socks, it’s essential to research the brand’s transparency regarding their sourcing and production. Look for certifications like Fair Trade, GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), and B Corp to ensure the socks are genuinely produced with ethical practices.

Wearing Pilates socks can improve your stability, prevent injuries, and stay comfortable during workouts.

Pilates Socks FAQ

Do you need grip socks for Pilates?

If you are practising pilates or yoga at home, you are probably better off doing it barefoot. But if you are attending classes, you should wear Pilates socks for hygiene reasons. Some studios have very strict sock policies; some might be more flexible. Regular socks are slippery and might make the practise less effective and less safe. Especially on the reformer.

What are grip socks for Pilates?

Grip socks are regular socks with a silicone or rubber texture on the sole to keep your feet from slipping. Every brand have thier own patterns of dots, logos, and other shapes to make sure the non-slip is on the parts of the foot that need the most grip.

How to wash Pilates grip socks?

I wash mine with regular socks in a washing machine or by hand straight after the practise. Avoid very high temperatures as the silicon non-slip bits could potentially come off. I have multiple pairs of Pilates socks that wash in the washing machine, and they have lasted for years. If you are not too sure, always refer to the label.

To conclude,

Here is my top list of practical and cute Pilates socks. I have added many options, from very affordable to more luxurious socks. My focus was to find the best pilates socks that are made from a majority of natural fabric, recycled, and organic cotton as a priority. I have not included any fully synthetic pairs.
