Most electrolyte powders and drinks are full of ingredients you don’t really need. Sucralose, acesulfame potassium, artificial dyes, maltodextrin as filler, a “proprietary blend” that tells you nothing about how much of anything you’re actually getting. For a product that is supposed to support hydration, that’s a lot of ingredients that do not help it at all.
I wanted to create a list of clean electrolyte supplements that only have ingredients that support your hydration.
Every supplement here is free of artificial sweeteners and dyes, with a complete electrolyte profile and dosing you can actually see. I’ve sorted them by format – unflavored powders, naturally sweetened powders, capsules, and drops – because the right one depends on how you drink your water and how sensitive you are to taste.
TL;DR
Best overall: REDMOND — Re-Lyte Hydration Electrolyte Powder Mix – One of the cleanest formulas in the article + Excellent hydration performance
Best Unflavored Powder: SALTT Electrolytes Powder Unflavored Drink Mix – Extremely clean 2-ingredient formula
Best Flavored Powder: JUST INGREDIENTS — Mango Lemonade Electrolyte Drink Mix – Strong potassium emphasis for general fitness and recovery + Very clean ingredient philosophy
Best Electrolyte Capsules: Smarter — Electrolyte Capsules – 1000mg sodium + 500mg potassium is unusually potent + Very clean formulation
Best Electrolyte Drops: SALTT — Hydrate Electrolytes Drops – Clean seawater-derived minerals + Meaningful sodium, potassium, and magnesium levels
The best electrolyte powders with clean ingredients feature unrefined salts (like pink Himalayan salt), natural fruit extracts, and zero artificial sweeteners, colors, or hidden fillers.
These three ingredients are a must in an electrolyte supplement:
Sodium: Helps regulate fluid balance and supports nerve and muscle function.
Potassium: Crucial for muscle contractions, including your heartbeat, and maintaining proper cell function.
Magnesium: Supports muscle relaxation, energy production, and nerve health.

You might also have formulations with:
Calcium: Important for bone strength, nerve signaling, and muscle movement.
Chloride: Works closely with sodium to maintain fluid balance and stomach acid production.

Best Naturally Sweetened Electrolyte Powders
Some of the cleanest, most effective formulas deliberately include a little coconut water or cane sugar – it’s not a flaw, it’s the mechanism. This is the whole principle behind oral rehydration therapy – the WHO formula that has treated severe dehydration for decades. It pairs sodium with a small amount of glucose because glucose activates the sodium-glucose co-transporter in the gut, which drags sodium across the intestinal wall, and water follows the sodium.
Ancient + Brave True Hydrate Powder utilizes natural electrolytes within coconut water, including potassium, calcium, and magnesium. It’s free from artificial flavors or sweeteners.
Servings: 30
Potassium: 220mg
Magnesium: 110mg
Calcium: 30mg
Sodium: 110mg
Chromium: 48mcg

Minerals are already dissolved in their liquid, “ionic” state. Your digestive tract doesn’t have to break down dry crystals or pill casings, allowing the cellular pumps to absorb the minerals instantly into the bloodstream.

Do I Need More Electrolytes During Perimenopause?
Hydration matters more in your forties than it did when you were younger. As estrogen declines through perimenopause, the body’s fluid and sodium regulation shifts with it – and the thirst signal itself becomes less reliable with age, so you can be mildly dehydrated without feeling especially thirsty (1). Let’s not forget hot flashes and night sweats, which pull fluid and minerals out more and make you even more dehydrated. And if you exercise a lot or live in a hot climate, electrolyte balance is even more important.
Magnesium is one electrolyte that gets harder to hold onto with age: intestinal absorption declines while the body loses more of it. This is why magnesium depletion is more common in midlife (2). Calcium absorption drops off as well, enough that the recommended intake rises for women after fifty (3). Neither is a reason to panic, but both are reasons to do the blood tests and check your levels and care about what’s actually in your electrolyte supplement – a formula with magnesium, sodium, and potassium is doing more for you at this stage in your life
Do we all need to drink Electrolyte powers daily, or is water enough?
Not everyone needs additional electrolytes daily. If you sit all day on a sofa eating processed food, you might already have too much salt, and you need to drink that water.
But if you are in perimenopause and/or sweating more than usual, running in the heat, or using a sauna, and lose a significant amount of fluid through sweat, you might benefit from extra electrolytes.
I take electrolytes in the morning. If I know I’ve been sweating a lot on other mornings, I only drink a glass of water before my morning coffee. I also take electrolytes during cardio workouts, and especially if I go for a run in the heat.
FAQ
Are electrolytes good for you?
Yes they are. Electrolytes are minerals that help regulate hydration, muscle contractions, nerve signaling and fluid balance. While most people get some electrolytes from food, additional electrolytes may be beneficial during periods of increased fluid loss, such as exercise, hot weather, illness or night sweats.
Who should take electrolytes?
Anyone who is sweating or loosing water and minerals any other ways like beeing sick or having diarrhea.
Take electrolites if:
- You are sweting a lot at night
- You are swaeting a lot due to hot climate, exersise or sauna
- Take electrolytes if you have been dihidrated for some reason, like was not consuming enough water for a few days.
How many electrolytes should I take?
Always check the amount recomended on the lable and don’t overdoo it. Also rememeber, that you don’t need to take them if you consume a lot of salty food and don’t sweat a lot, you should get the right amount just by consuming foods and drinking water.
How to add electrolytes to water?
When consuming electrolytes, it is very important to wait till they dissolve in the water. Add the required amount of electrolytes, mix them and wait for a minute till they dissolve. Mix again if you can see some still on the bottom of the glass. Yes they are
To summarize,
We all need a bit of help to make sure we are properly hydrated, and these electrolyte powders, capsules, and drops will help you do that. But what is important to remember, just like with any other supplements, make sure your body really needs it before you add it to your daily routine. For example, my blood test shows that I have too much potassium but not enough magnesium, so I choose formulas with minimal potassium and only take electrolytes when I sweat a lot. The rest of the time, I rely on food and water to keep me hydrated.
Electrolytes should be supplemented, and you should still remember to drink enough water, especially if you are in perimenopause when our skin and joints need even more hydration.
